DevFest Santo Domingo is a community event for everyone — regardless of background, identity, or experience level. By attending, speaking, sponsoring, or volunteering, you agree to follow the rules below.
Our four ground rules.
These aren't suggestions. They're the floor — the minimum we expect from everyone who shares space with our community for two days.
Welcome people of every race, gender, orientation, ability, age, and experience level. Assume good faith.
Disagree on ideas, never on people. Listen actively. Use names and pronouns people share with you.
Zero tolerance for harassment, intimidation, threats, or unsolicited photography. Consent is mandatory.
Lift others up. Mentor where you can. Celebrate first-time speakers, junior devs, and people new to our community.

Use welcoming, inclusive language. Address people by the name and pronouns they give.
Show empathy toward people whose context is different from yours.
Take constructive feedback gracefully. Apologize and learn when you get it wrong.
Ask before photographing or recording someone — and respect a 'no'.
Make room for first-time speakers, people starting out, and newcomers to the community.
If you see something off, say something — to the organizing team or through the reporting channels.
Harassment, intimidation, threats, or stalking — in person or online.
Discriminatory jokes, slurs, or comments about identity, body, religion, or background.
Sexual language or imagery, and unwanted physical contact in talks, booths, or hallways.
Recording or photographing people without their consent.
Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or other community spaces.
Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
If something goes wrong, tell us.
If something happens during the event — or already has — pick whichever channel feels safest. Every report is taken seriously and answered within 24 hours.
Anyone on the organizing or volunteer team can activate the response team during the event. This is the route for anything that needs attention right away.
What happens if someone violates the code.
Every report is unique, but here's the general ladder we use. The CoC team has full discretion to skip steps depending on severity.
For minor or first-time issues. The reported person is contacted privately, told what happened, and asked to stop.
A formal warning, with the offending behavior named. Continued behavior moves directly to step 3 or 4.
For serious incidents: the person is asked to leave the venue. No refund. Speakers' talks may be removed from the program.
For severe or repeat violations: a permanent ban from all GDG Santo Domingo events and online community spaces.

This Code of Conduct adapts language from the Contributor Covenant v2.1 and the GDG global community guidelines, with localizations specific to Santo Domingo and the broader Dominican developer community.
